A Legend Returns

Square Enix used Sony’s E3 press conference to announce that it has begun production on the full remake of Final Fantasy VII for the PS4.

Leading the development will be key members from the original project, including producer Yoshinori Kitase, director Tetsuya Nomura and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima.

First released in 1997 on the original PlayStation, Final Fantasy VII is regarded by many as one of the greatest RPGs of all time and the high point of the Final Fantasy series. It’s not exactly aged well, though, and its blocky lego-esque character models can make it tricky to get into for newer generations of gamers.

Calls for a full-blown remake have been growing in recent years so it’s not surprising that the game is now being rebuilt from the ground up for a new generation of gamers to enjoy.

A release date has not yet been announced, but it looks like the game will be a timed exclusive on PS4, and will eventually make it’s way to Xbox One and maybe even PC.
