That’s How You Dress Up Proper
To the uninformed, cosplaying is “the performance art in which participants wear costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea” (thanks, Wikipedia!). Essentially, it’s fancy dress taken to a whole new level.
Now, I must admit that I’ve seen some truly dreadful cosplays over the years. Whether it’s the common half-arsed attempt of wearing a Pikachu onesie, the random bloke wielding plastic guns with only a vague resemblance to a particular game character, or the colourful individual who looks like they’ve had an accident with their mom’s makeup set – to say I’ve been underwhelmed in the past is a massive understatement.
But for every bad cosplay out there, some truly exceptional ones appear. And the cosplayers who attended Dragon Con 2014, it seems, have mastered the art. It’s remarkable to see how many people have managed to recreate Hollywood rivalling cosplays, or simply used their ingenuity to make a recognisable character even more appealing.
From video games to TV and film, you’re bound to recognise at least one iconic character.
Check out the amazing cosplays in the video below, created by YouTuber beatdownboogie. I guess that cosplaying isn’t necessarily about looking exactly like the character you’re trying to represent – it’s all about having fun, first and foremost.[yt_video id=”DKokKVN6f6E”][/yt_video]
