The rumour about The Amazing Spider-Man 2 being delayed on the Xbox One began when Gamers Honest Truth claimed to have received word from sources close to Activision about the Xbox One version getting pushed back. They also claimed that pre-orders for the game had been cancelled by a local EB games outlet. Furthermore, the Xbox One version was removed from the game’s official website as available to pre-order, with the game also being removed as a pre-order on Amazon UK.
Now, Activision has confirmed in a statement to MCV that it will be reconsidering its plans for releasing The Amazing Spider Man 2 on the Xbox One, possibly delaying or cancelling it entirely.
“We want to inform you that we are revising our release plans for ASM2 on Xbox One… When and whether ASM2 is released on Xbox One is TBD.”
The Quebec based developers Beenox also made the game’s predecessor The Amazing Spider Man, and are continuing the same brand of third person action-based gameplay in the new title. When the game was announced in October 2013, the developers promised an expanded map of Manhattan with a variety of new challenges and abilities.
The Amazing Spider-man 2 will still be available for PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and 3DS on May 2nd. There has as yet been no word on the reason behind the mysterious cancellation/delay of the Xbox One version.
